¨Dear Merrie D. Anne, I don’t have a dress, I don’t know where to take pictures, and I don’t know how to do makeup. Prom is approaching and I don´t know what to do, please help! Sincerely, Underdressed and Stressed.¨
Dear Underdressed and Stressed, let’s dissect this problem and take it one step at a time, starting with the dress.
Price: First consider your budget. If you need something cheap start asking older friends, cousins, siblings, and aunts if they still have any of their old prom dresses you could borrow, most of the time this will be free. Also, look in the formal sections of your local thrift stores. If you aren’t crazy about buying a cheap out-of-style dress, remember that with a little creativity and probably some help from your grandma you can alter your dress. Online dress options are great, the drawback is that you can’t try it on before you buy it, and it might not arrive in time for prom, however, you can search for any style you want. If the price does not concern you, definitely try checking out a bridal store in your area.
Style: Think about the jewelry you will want to wear and what flower will match when you pick out your dress.
Next, of course, is makeup. Remember you are already beautiful as you are, but if you choose to do makeup, here’s some help.
The Look: Find a reference picture of the look you want to recreate and find out what supplies you need to accomplish this, some makeup stores will even do your makeup for you.
Youtube: If you are doing your makeup yourself and you have no idea what you are doing, find a makeup tutorial and follow along.
Let’s talk pictures. Discuss where you will be taking pictures with your group or date several days or even weeks before prom, otherwise, this could be stressful.
Setting options: A staircase is always a good option for prom pictures, it’s timeless. Another good option is a park or someone’s backyard, what’s better than the outdoors?
Most importantly, remember to have fun and be safe.
