On January 19, Meridian will host the Shelbyville Rams in its annual Pack the Place. Pack the Place is one of the biggest games of the year for boys basketball. Students from the primary, middle, and high schools are all invited to come together. It’s not just students who participate, but community members too.

This year, however, Meridian is doing something different. The week prior to Pack the Place students were given dress up days, Tuesday was “Mathletes vs. Athletes,” but school was canceled, Wednesday was Wacky Tacky, Thursday was Country vs. Country Club, and Friday was School Spirit. When asked why he thought the dress up days were implemented, senior Elijah Boliard had this to say, “Because it’s fun to dress up. You get to wear something other than your regular attire.”

Mr. Stielow, the representative for Student Council, reiterated what Boliard said, explaining that Student Council decided to have dress up days similar to those during homecoming to “have fun.”

Dress up days aren’t the only new thing this year. In addition, there will also be games on Friday. Students will be let out of classes early to go to the gym to watch and even participate in the games. Boliard thinks the games “could be interesting.”

The Meridian entrepreneurship¬†class designed and created shirts to sell for Pack the Place. When asked if he thinks the dress up days and games will bring more people to the game, Stielow stated: “I hope so, I hope there is a¬†big crowd.”
