The Blue Mound Fall Festival has been an annual tradition in the community since 1910. The 110th anniversary of the event was canceled due to COVID-19. The car show is another large part of the Fall Festival. This would have been the 15th year for it. "I felt a bit relieved when I found out the Fall Festival was cancelled because it is a very stressful time for me, but also a little disappointed," Nathan True, car show organizer said.

The Blue Mound Fall Festival has been an annual event in the community for 109 years. It includes carnival rides, games, food, concerts, 50/50 raffle, car show, parade, pageants, and more. The 110th year would have been in August of 2020, however, due to COVID-19, it was canceled on May 7. This cancellation left many students upset.

“I am sort of disappointed it got canceled this year,” Connor Daundivier, MHS sophomore said.

Daundivier has attended the Fall Festival every year since he moved to Illinois in 2015. He will mainly miss the rides. He believes the cancellation will make him excited for the 2021 Fall Festival due to the two-year wait.

For some students, this is one of their favorite events of the year. They feel disappointed since the Fall Festival was canceled on top of many other things.

“I just feel like all of the good times are being taken away because of the virus,” Courtney Sollman, MHS junior said.

Sollman has gone to the Fall Festival every year for as long as she can remember. She’s disappointed it is canceled because it’s always one of her favorite times of the year. She hopes they’ll “go all out” next year since it was canceled this year.

Korey Damery, an MHS senior, has also gone to the Fall Festival for as long as he can remember. His favorite part of it is the lemon shakeups and funnel cakes.

“I’m going to miss blowing all of my money on the ring toss game trying to win a two-liter,” Damery said.

Riley Probus is a sophomore at MHS. His favorite parts of the Fall Festival are hanging out with friends and the carnival rides.

“I’ll probably miss all of the good food that is usually there,” Probus said.

The 2021 Blue Mound Fall Festival is scheduled for August 12, 13, and 14.
