This year is chock-full of sequels, remakes, and 2019 originals.  Here is a list of some of the most anticipated movies of the new year:

10.) Hellboy

Directed by Neil Marshall (the man who helmed the famous Game of Thrones episode “Blackwater”) and co- written by the comic’s creator, Mike Mignola.  The main character, Hellboy, is played by David Harbour, also known as Chief Hopper from “Stranger Things.”  The movie is set at the end of World War 2, Nazis attempt to open a portal to defeat the Allies, that ends up turning into a summon of a baby demon who is rescued by Allied forces and named “Hellboy.”  Sixty years pass and Hellboy serves as an agent in the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense to protect America against dark forces.

9.) Aladdin

A remake of the famous 1992 fantasy/romance film. It is the international cast which puts this production at number nine:  Mena Massoud (Aladdin), Naomi Scott (Jasmine), and the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air as the genie in this musical remake.

8.) Joker

Interest soared for the new film about the infamous character when word got out that Joaquin Phoenix would play the Clown Prince of Crime.  Some of the early costume tests reveal what mimics Cesar Romero’s iconic 60’s version of the character.  For this action-packed production, spectators are anticipating the most terrifying take on the super villain since the late Heath Ledger’s Oscar-winning performance in The Dark Knight.

7.) Glass

We have M. Night Shaymalan to thank for the surprise sequel to 2000’s low-key superhero film Unbreakable.  Following up on the man who is the only survivor of a high-fatality train crash and somehow has great physical fortune, more than 18 years after Elijah Price (Samuel L. Jackson) stamped his super villain status with the iconic line, “They called me Mr. Glass.”  This production came out January 19.

6.) It: Chapter Two

After all of the hype going around from the first Stephen King It that was remade in 2017, spectators were already expecting a sequel, wondering what the grownup ensemble would look like. Which includes: Jessica Chastan, James McAvoy, and Bill Harder. As always it would not be the same without the talented, but creepy, Bill Skarsgard playing as the clown, Pennywise.  Even though this film looks promising, we will have to wait until September 6 to see the turnout.

5.) The Irishman

Although the production doesn’t have an official image, poster, trailer or release date, another mob movie with Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci always piques people’s interest. Directed by Martin Scorsese (who is currently putting the final touches on this film) The Irishman is a tale of a hitman who might have had something to do with the disappearance and death of Teamster Jimmy Hoffa.  Fans continue to go crazy over every leaked picture of the upcoming production.

4.) Once Upon a Time in Hollywood

One of the most obvious reasons this film made it onto the list is because of the cast including: Leonardo DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, Quentin Tarantino, Kurt Russell, Al Pacino, Dakota Fanning, and Margo Robbie. The film is directed by Quentin Tarantino himself, this drama is set in 1969, located in Los Angeles. It is about a former Western star and his longtime stunt double who fail to see the success in a Hollywood that they no longer recognize. At a $100 million budget, this movie is high on a number of Watchlists and we can’t wait to see if it lives up to the hype. It’s coming to you soon on July 26.

3.) Dark Phoenix

Taking place after the events of X- Men: Apocalypse, Dark Phoenix is one of the most iconic stories in the X-Men series. Bringing back stars like James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, and Game of Thrones star, Sophie Turner. Furthermore, we were promised that the X-Men were going to be in space, helping rank this future film at number three on the list, coming out June 7.

2.) Avengers: Endgame

After Avengers: Infinity War left such a big cliffhanger, a sequel was expected.  Not only will it determine the fates of dozens of our favorite Marvel characters, it will also wrap up Marvel’s epic Phase 3, which kicked off in 2016 with Captain America: Civil War. Coming in at number two on our list, this film is projected to come out this spring on April 26.

1.) Captain Marvel

Don’t be fooled, even though she’s less well-known, she could possibly be one of the most powerful superheroes in Marvel Cinematic Universe.  Teased at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, Captain Marvel is set in 1995, and centers on a former fighter pilot named Carol Danvers played by Brie Larson.  She becomes Captain Marvel when Earth is caught in the middle of an alien war, however, much of the plot remains a mystery. Bringing this to our number one most anticipated movie of 2019, this film also comes out this spring on March 8.
