Grace Miller is a senior at Decatur Christian School but has played on the Meridian Golf Team for four years. She was the golf team’s number one player this year and has a nine-hole average of 44 strokes…and an 18 hole average of 88 strokes.

Miller has made it to state twice, including this year where she had to play two rounds of 18 holes. Her first day this year, she shot an 85. Then on her second day, she shot another 85, which put her in No. 36 place out of 112 people. She also played in the state last year, where on her first day, she shot an 80 and placed sixth in the state.

Miller said, “When I was a sophomore, I saw a lot of my friends who were juniors at the time go to state, but they didn’t go back their senior year. As a senior, you put a lot more pressure on yourself. I’ve done it once, I can do it again.”

She started playing golf when she was six years old. Miller says, “My dad got me a set of golf clubs when I was five, and my dad would take me out all the time. I hated golf up to my freshman year, and I chose golf over volleyball because I didn’t like volleyball that much either.”

Miller’s father says, “It was pretty special. It’s not something people get to do once, let alone twice.” He came to every match he could this year. He also says, “She could shave off some strokes at chipping and putting.”

Golf Coach Mr. Stielow says, “The golf team took a big loss, and we needed to find a new person with a steady low score.” if you would like to join the Meridian Golf Team, they start at the end of summer, and if you just want to come and watch, they play at Moweaqua Golf Courses.

The Meridian Golf Team starts practice at the end of summer and plays at Moweaqua Golf Course. Students interested in joining the team may contact Mr. Stielow at [email protected]
