Mamma Mia has been the top priority of the drama club since early November, with 26 songs, many scene changes, and plenty of bright costumes custom to fit the actors. Meridian will perform the jukebox musical Mamma Mia!, May 3, 4 and 5.

I hope you’re all as excited as I was to see this musical because it will definitely live up to your expectations.

The stage setup was even better looking than it was when I passed it during school. You will really feel like you’re sitting across the Atlantic in Greece! The drama department had help to reconstruct the set they purchased from Dundee-Crown High School for this show. The costumes were also a memorable part of the play, adding a perfect touch to an already beautiful stage.

The singing was all around one of my favorite parts, the catchy songs by ABBA made it hard not to sing along as time went by. Sadie Scott, senior, had some of the best vocals I’ve heard in a musical in a while. She captures her character so accurately you can tell acting is her second nature.

Abbey Rutledge, acting as Sophie, was another angelic voice I had to note. She takes the stage like its Broadway, and I can tell she’s going to have a very successful drama career.

While the cast did an outstanding job at being seamless and on point, the stage crew was also almost nonexistent and helped provide and create the steady flow of the musical.

“It’s times like these I’m tearing up because, during auditions, this is exactly what I saw in my mind,” said Director Shelia Moore after the ‘Dynamo Girls’ finished performing at Sophie’s dramatic bachelorette party.

This play is honestly a must see, it’s such a fun show and could keep anyone entertained! You can see all the work between the cast and crew that brings them so close and creates such a memorable experience.
