What's up Meridian? Hawk Nation, baby. Meridian alumni Dalton Collins and Brock Snarski open their music video the same way students who filmed the "We Are Mizzou" video did...starting out on a bench outside. Both men have solos in the video.

Select Meridian alumni spent the last few weeks working in conjunction with journalism students. The end goal was to produce a music video promoting school spirit.

The current journalism class was tasked with finding areas of the school or community they felt needed a positive boost, then creating a plan to make it happen. One group, consisting of Ian Carnahan, Sydney Moore, Sophie Fiebig and Justin Hendrian decided the “We Are Meridian” slogan, used by the district, needed revived with new energy. Their plan includes several components: a digital trophy case, t-shirts, and two music videos–one created by alumni, the other by current students.

Dalton Collins (class of 2015)  took part in the video “because I think Meridian students need a boost in school pride.” Collins, a former Meridian Daily reporter, added, “…and I low key really miss doing projects for Mrs. Moore’s class.”

Collins spent three afternoons at Meridian recording vocals and video footage with fellow alumni Brock Snarski (class of 2014) and Cole Babcock (class of 2016).

Babcock, the most recent alumni out of the trio, has moved on to a strong start at Millikin University. “I decided to help with this video because I have so much love and pride for Meridian High School, and seeing people not participating in being a proud Meridian Hawk is upsetting. I would do anything to go back and walk those halls again day after day. And some advice for those Hawks out there, embrace it while you can, we are all very lucky to be Hawks of Meridian. You will miss it. Stay proud because WE ARE MERIDIAN.”

The idea behind the music video is for current students to receive the message that they will miss their time here once they’re gone–and to make the community proud. The lyrics, written by Ian Carnahan, are unique to our school. The video, however, is not. The idea came from a Youtube video that was popular a few years ago, “We are Mizzou.” The young men who produced the Mizzou video were anxious to share their resources with Meridian.

The lyrics read as follows:

What’s up Meridian

Hawk Nation baby,

Hey Brock you tryna’ freestyle right now

Yeah bro, I’m probs gonna need your help tho

No worries fam I got you

Let’s try one take

For sure

Where’s Blick these days anyway?

Probably enjoying retirement

Ahh come on Brock, faith man

Wanna know the best thing about alumni

What’s that?

We’re in it

We aren’t in high school anymore

Let me tell you something

We’re tryna cause an uproar

We out here stunting

Gotta show you gotta teach you how to fight

We ain’t kidding

There’s only one way to do this now,

No limits

Don’t wanna make us boo, We were like you

We were like you

So who you?

First off, let’s set a pace

High school, yeah that’s the place

Cause I know it’s hard to focus when Al throws down in your face

Stare into space

I loved going to school in my birthplace

We welcome newcomers, but they don’t know just who to trace

We’re, coming back to show you what to do

Won regs my junior year, now that’s a view.

Played like Jordan with the flu

When you look at us you knew

Wanted to impress us so bad

Yeah, but just be you

Al Scheider was the man, he knew what to do

Talent show was my favorite thing tough, through and through

Collins will strip you of the ball

And will shoot it too

Then Snarski comes in and yams on you

We aren’t in high school anymore

Let me tell you something

We’re tryna cause an uproar

We out here stunting

Gotta show you gotta teach you how to fight

We ain’t kidding

There’s only one way to do this now,

No limits

You gotta make us proud, We were like you

We were like you

So who you

Snarksi into Collins out to Baker for the three

Fornwalt is his last name, DMV is where you see

Go up, go down, the hallways you should

Won’t do a senior prank, but Drake Baker would

Meridian here we come, alumni watch out son

You can have your state champs but we have an Olympian

Yeah we remember our time in this rap

But it’s not important yeah, this ain’t some trashy learning trap.

Last but not least we believe in you

We only know one thing, at least we think we knew

We left a legacy through and through so we do us and you do you

We aren’t in high school anymore

Let me tell you something

We’re tryna cause an uproar

We out here stunting

Gotta show you gotta teach you how to fight

We ain’t kidding

There’s only one way to do this now,

No limits

You gotta make us proud, We were like you

We were like you

So who you

Yell out your colors Hawks–GREEN AND WHITE

Yell out your colors Hawks–GREEN AND WHITE
