Drama auditions are coming up. This year Sheila Moore, drama director for six years, will direct Mamma Mia! Auditions are November 15 and 16 and callbacks are Monday, November 19.  Moore is looking forward to the audition process.

Moore said, “I like to come in not having any idea on how I want to cast it, I get a chance to envision while hearing people and put it together.”

“I’m looking forward to performing with a bunch of new people, learning all the songs and dances, and it’s my senior year and I’m going out with a bang,” said Sadie Scott. Drama helped Scott overcome the fear of speaking in front of other people. Scott used to be really shy and now is not afraid of being who she is.

The audition process will be different this year. “There will be a Workshop day on November 10, where students will be divided into three groups with four locations,” said Moore.

Location 1: Groups will work with Ms. Dowd, vocal director, on “Voulez-Vouz” in her classroom.

Location 2: Ms. Moore will teach choreography to “Voulez-Vouz” on the stage.

Location 3: Haley Pagel, ISU student who studies music, will conduct one-on-one coaching sessions for lead vocals.

Location 4: A location for actors to practice what they’ve learned in small groups.

Keagan Kantor (freshman) said, “I’m excited to sing mostly. I’m excited to be a part of something with my friends…I’m not nervous, I’ve done this before and I’m ready.”

Moore really looks for stage presence. To help with the nerve-wracking process, Ms. Moore has closed auditions, people are not allowed in the hallways so whoever is auditioning has the chance to belt out the songs without anyone eavesdropping.

“I want students to come on Saturday to the workshop, give me a chance, drama is fun, you’ll get addicted to the experience and want to do it,” Moore said.
