Chill. Seniors Audrey Durbin, Nicole Cromwell, Alyssa Gentry, and freshman Riley Brelsfoard relax during post prom. Post prom is a great way to hang out with friends. “It’s something we’ll remember long after high school,” Durbin says.

Meridian’s post prom took place on May first, giving the students something to do after prom while hanging out with their friends.

“It’s like hanging out with your friends at your house, minus your parents telling you not to break things,” said prom queen Julianna Mendenhall. She had a lot of fun at this year’s post prom, stating, “It’s nice to know you’re not too old yet to stay up all night.”

There was also a variety of different activities including human Foosball, a mechanical bull, volleyball, a rock climbing wall, board games, bingo, and more (including amazing food).

Junior Princess Marissa Oliver lost at what are the odds and had to climb the rock wall, “[It was] embarrassing when I couldn’t reach the top and my arms and legs were shaking. I knew that I had a harness on me but I was really scared I was gonna slip off and [hit my head].” However, Oliver states that she would probably attempt the rock wall again, hopefully reaching the top.

Post Prom also had a hypnotist. The show was a hilarious sight for those watching, but participants didn’t really know what was happening. “I was still somewhat aware, but I also had no control over what I was doing,” says senior Audrey Durbin. “I did feel great afterwards, but my brain was tired so going to sleep was still reasonably easy.”

What could be improved about post prom for the future?

The major problem with post prom is all the down time. “There’s [just a lot of] people who don’t really like board games and don’t really like sports so we need other options,” Mendenhall adds. “I have no idea what those would be, [maybe] competitive napping?” she adds with a laugh.

Even the students who do like sports and board games might still get tired and just sit around. Especially during the awful wait from after the hypnotist ends until six a.m.- when you’re able to go home and sleep.

There are still a ton of good reasons to go to post prom. “[Kids enjoy post prom] because you get to hang out with everyone and goof off after prom,” says Oliver. “[It’s fun] just doing the different activities with friends, and the food was good.”

“It has a lot of different things, so that everyone can have a good time. Plus it’s something we’ll remember long after high school…also the food is a huge bonus,” Durbin says.
