Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 was released on November 21, 2018. This film is a light-hearted movie that aims at a younger audience to address what it is like to support someone even though it is hard for you.
Ralph Breaks the Internet: Wreck-It Ralph 2 takes place at an arcade called “Litwak’s Arcade,” all of the games are plugged into an outlet strip and it allows them to interact with each other. The owner of the arcade plugs in a port; all of the game characters think it’s a new game, but the viewer finds out soon that it is not the case. The port that was plugged in was the internet router plug, one of the security guards warns everyone and prohibits anyone to enter it.
Question 1: Why did you choose this movie?
A- I choose this movie when I was scrolling through Netflix, I meant to watch it ages ago but I never did. I also watched the first one and enjoyed it thoroughly.
Question 2: Beginning of the movie: What stands out to you?
A- This movie takes place six years after the first, and it is clear to see that Ralph and Vanellope’s friendship has grown stronger. It makes me glad to see them finally happy together.
Question 3: 1/4 of the way done: What problems have arisen?
A- So Ralph messes up as per usual, he tries to make Sugar Rush, Vanellope’s home game, more interesting adding a “new” track to it to make her happy. This only results in him screwing up the steering wheel causing it to break. Since this is an older game the only replaceable steering wheel is expensive and the arcade owner decides to scrap the game.
Question 4: 1/2 of the way done: Have problems gotten worse?
A- Ralph and Vanellope have gone to the internet to try and find a replacement steering wheel. They go to E-Bay and misunderstood the concept of it and spouted out thousands and thousands of dollars for a $200 bid. The duo then searches for easy ways to make quick money and find someone that “loot hunts”. The character that sets them up to loot hunt, gives them a big-ticket item in another game.
They go to this racing game called Slaughter Race and attempt to steal a $40,000 car to pay off their bid. Instantly they get into a high-speed race with the game’s “boss” Shank. Shank is a great character in my opinion. She is a mix between a cool aunt and a rebel that kept me laughing throughout the movie. The duo gets cornered and sadly does not get the car to pay off the debt.
After the race, Shank decides to tell them to go to Buzztube and meet Yesss. Yesss is the algorithm bot for Buzztube and decides that Ralph is something special and makes him a star. They film a bunch of videos to gain hearts, hearts are equivalent to in real life dollars.
Question 5: 3/4 of the way done: Are the problems solved?
A-Ralph and Vanellope get the money but due to an accidental phone call, Vanellope reveals that she doesn’t want to go back with Ralph and she feels more at home in Slaughter Race than Sugar Rush. This causes tension between the two of them and Ralph decides to go to the virus-web and get a “harmless” virus that copies insecurities to make Vanellope lose interest in the game. This only makes it worse. When she finds out Ralph did this she is devastated and the virus that was released in Slaughter Race escapes to the internet. The virus then copies Ralph’s insecurities and causes a world-wide virus.
Question 6: Finished the movie: How were the problems solved?
The virus copies Ralph’s insecurities and highlights his stress and sadness that Vanellope wants to leave him. After they face off and try and figure out how to beat it, Ralph realizes he has to accept that Vanellope is going to do her own thing but it doesn’t mean that she is any less of his best friend.
This message is very important for all ages. To realize everything is not permanent and your friends have other dreams, hits home for a lot of kids and even adults.
Question 7: What can you take away from this movie?
I would rate this movie an 8/10. It kept me laughing with its silly humor and cracks at modern problems, but it felt like it was missing something. I don’t know if it could be a non-rushed problem or solution type of deal but it seemed quick to introduce them a whole lot. The characters from the original movie were by far one of my favorite parts, seeing how happy Felix and his wife, Calhoun were made me just as happy with them. This movie targeted some hot topics for most people, I would recommend this to anyone who either watched the first one or just wants a silly corny movie to watch with friends or family.
