1. Hocus Pocus

Hocus Pocus centers around a teenager named Max who has recently moved to Salem with his little sister, Dani. In an effort to impress the girl of his dreams, he accidentally frees a group of three witches and now it is up to Max, Dani, and Alison, the girl of his dreams,  to save the children of Salem before it’s too late.

Hocus Pocus is my all-time favorite Halloween movie, it has comedy, action, and even some romance. It is overall an exciting movie all the way from start to finish.

2. Coraline

Coraline is all about a girl who moved into an apartment complex and while exploring finds a secret door that leads her to a whole new world where everything is perfect, perfect parents, perfect room, perfect garden. Unfortunately, there is a downside to this other world, it has been designed by the Other Mother and her ultimate goal is to lure children in and sow buttons into their eyes, by doing this it allows her to steal the souls of children.

Coraline definitely deserves a spot at the top of this list, it has great animation and a great plot. Coraline is the perfect movie to add to your Halloween watch list, both the music and the storyline will leave you in both awe and feeling extremely creeped out.

3. Ghostbusters

Ghostbusters is about a group of three previous professors who band together to form a ghostbusting business to battle supernatural threats.

Ghostbusters is a Halloween classic, you just can’t have a complete Halloween season without hearing the iconic Ghostbusters’ song or watching one of the Ghostbusters’ movies and for that reason, Ghostbusters is number three on my list.

4. The Addams Family

Gomez Addams has been searching for his long lost brother for many years, so when a man shows up claiming to be Fester Addams, Gomez is quick to accept him into the family; meanwhile, the rest of the family stays skeptical. Fester eventually kicks out the Addams family while in search of the family fortune. Will the Addams family reclaim their house and their fortune?

The Addams Family is a cinematic masterpiece, the actors bring the characters to life. It is one of those movies that could never be replicated because no director could do a better job or cast a better actor for any part.

5. Nightmare Before Christmas

The Nightmare Before Christmas centers around Jack Skellington and his obsession with Christmas after finding out that something other than Halloween exists. Jack wants to mix the joy of Christmas with the terror of Halloween and he believes the best way to go about doing so is to kidnap Santa Claus so that he can have his chance to bring “joy” to children.

The Nightmare Before Christmas is the perfect mixture of Halloween and Christmas, so much so that it cannot really be classified as one or the other, but since it’s such a great movie, go ahead and watch it for both seasons. The music and quality of the movie will not leave you disappointed.

6. The Witches

The Witches is about a grandmother who takes care of her grandson after his parents’ death. The two visit a hotel in England only to find out that a large group of witches is having a conference on how to wipe out all the children in Europe. The grandson is turned into a mouse after hearing of the plan. It is up to him to stop the witches before they have a chance to enact their plan.

The Witches reenvision everything you might’ve previously thought about witches. It is a great movie to watch around Halloween and it is a truly unique concept.

7. The Corpse Bride

The Corpse Bride is about a man named Victor who is arranged to marry a woman named Victoria. Victor goes to the forest to practice lines for his wedding so that he won’t mess up and a tree branch morphs into a hand and pulls him down to the land of the dead. Victor has to make it out of the land of the dead and back to the land of the living before Victoria marries someone else.

The Corpse Bride is a Tim Burton movie, which in my opinion is reason enough to want to watch this movie. In addition, The Corpse Bride’s music soundtrack is a magnificent addition to the fantastic storyline.

8. Mostly Ghostly: Who Let the Ghosts Out?

Mostly Ghostly is about an 11-year-old boy who loves magic. While in his basement, he discovers a secret tunnel filled with ghosts and evil spirits who wish to inhabit the physical world. In the process of trying to save the world from the evil ghosts and spirits, the boy befriends two ghosts whose parents are missing. The group must work together to defeat the evil spirits.

Mostly Ghostly is a series of Halloween movies, but Who Let the Ghosts Out is the first and arguably the best. Mostly Ghostly is a great family movie for Halloween and plus who doesn’t need a little R.L. Stine during October.

9. Casper (1995)

Casper is about a friendly ghost who “haunts” a mansion in Maine. The owner of the mansion hires a supernatural specialist to eliminate the ghost problem. The specialist brings along his daughter and Casper quickly befriends the daughter.

All of the Casper movies are very good, however, I do think that the live-action Casper is the best. Casper is a Halloween classic beloved by all generations and is worth watching this October.

10. The Haunted Mansion

The Haunted Mansion is a movie based on the Disney theme park ride and is about a work-obsessed real estate agent who is trying to sell a giant mansion, but unfortunately runs into some unexpected complications with the property. The mansion is haunted by a heartbroken ghost who wishes to be reunited with his long lost lover.

Many rides are based upon books or movies so it is neat to see the opposite done with a movie. If you want a movie with comedy, but still include Halloween themes, then you need to add this movie to your October watch list.
