Halloween has arrived, recipe style!

It’s that time of year again, where the leaves are falling off the trees, campfires are blazing in the cool night air, hoodies are in fashion and the family is starting to make delicious treats to fit the Halloween theme. Maybe some pumpkin pie? Or a more creative approach; mummy dogs and monster jaws! These are just a few ideas to spice up your decorative courses, but if you’re having multiple guests over, the only solution is bloody fingers. They will be quite a hoot at the party.

These little creations are quick, simple and easy to make, not to mention also a hit with the kids! Looks might be deceiving, but just one bite and your mouth will explode with flavor, and your wallet will also explode with all the money you can save on this creepy entree. The ingredients are inexpensive, and all you will needed is sugar cookie dough, almonds (or any other nut you prefer), red jelly or red decorating gel and an oven.

Separate your cookie dough into little balls and each ball will turn into one finger. Roll the balls long ways, about the same length as a finger, then make the middle of the “finger” just a little bit thicker. This way it is going to represent the knuckle. Take a knife and make slits into the knuckle part, this will show the wrinkles, like how they are on your actual finger. Be careful to not cut the slits all the way through the dough though. Where the nail would be on an actual finger, you will need to take a nut or an almond and press it into the top of the dough finger. When finished place the fingers on a greased cookie sheet (Pam is good to use as a greaser). The cookies will then be baked at 350 degrees for 10 minutes. When cookies are done, let them sit out for a few minutes (so they can cool down), then take the nuts or almonds off the cookies. There should be an indent from where the nut or almond was laying. Then you will need to take your red product that you decided to use and dip a small amount of it into the nail bed. Place the nut back on and the liquid should leak out through the sides. This will give it the effect of blood oozing out of a bloody finger. When you finish you can also add some of the gel at the end of the finger to make it look like the finger has been pulled off of a hand, if you really want that kind of scary effect!
